Samuel emigated to New Zealand on 24Sep 1856 on the OLIVER LANG. Arrived Wellington 19.12.1856. On the day of their marriage they took out two bills or promissory notes (No. 718 & 719) for 20 pounds each. Theystayed in the Hutt Valley, now part of greater Wellington, for two years, however, they must have fallen on difficult times because in 1859these bills were still listed as owing in the Votes & Proceedings of the Wellington Provincial Council 1859. By 1864 financial difficultiesresolved they settled in Rangiora, Canterbury in the South Island. HereSamuel took up farming, presumably successfully as he lived on his farm with his large family until he died of a strangulated Inginal Hernia. He collapsed day after operation.
